PLANNING: 3 narrative ideas

Narrative 1. A group of friends go on a trip to the beach at the start of their summer holidays (perhaps before university starts?), travel down together in one/multiple of the friend's cars. The narrative follows the story of two individuals in the group (a boy and a girl) who form a closer relationship due to the trip. Audience sees the progression of their relationship throughout the video. The studio scene would be performed by the two protagonists, shows their emotion and focuses the narrative on those two in particular. Have a scene/shot where the protagonists are messing around with suncream on the beach - parallel with the face paints in the studio. Representations: Gender (boy/girl), Location (beach/studio) Narrative 2. Starts at a funeral, person 1 shown looking sad. Flashbacks of person 1 and person 2 travelling and having a good time in summer. (at beach etc.) This causes there audience to presume that it is person 2 that has died. But, during the flashback/mem...

RESEARCH: Jerry Folk target audience

Image
My perfect audience member would be between 16-24 years old and enjoy dance music, perhaps having a tendency to prefer slightly more mellow dance music such as tropical house.  Using the https://www.uktribes.com website, my perfect audience member would mainly fall under the short:snaps or VOD:social categories, with some falling under POP:social, too. My video is going to attract my perfect audience member as it will be relaxed and fun, but also appeal to culturally sophisticated young adults and teens by being slightly classy as well as being chilled. It will capture the youthful feeling of a modern-day adolescent life whilst also advertising the artist and their music style, which would encourage the ad-receptive audience to engage with more of the artist’s work. My perfect audience member would be a young impressionable person - young adults or teens - who are aspirational and have a sense of what they want to achieve in life. My music video will appe...

RESEARCH: Oh Wonder previous music videos

Due to the fact that Jerry Folk does not have more than one previous music video, I looked at Oh Wonder's (the original artist) videos. The majority of their high achieving songs have their own music videos, but my favourite three were the videos for Drive, All We Do and Lose It. Drive video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_w5jPT8LMF0&index=2&list=PLOvx_HqaOSrF4jXisgAaDUNYEquWLvSDw I liked this video because there was an interesting narrative that featured both members of the duo. The video was set in rural american desert giving the video a retro ambiance, featuring 1950's style American diner and Ford Mustang. there were also a variation in shot types and accompanied by the consistent colour palette, it enables the viewer to feel present in the setting of the music video. Anoher reason i enjoyed this video was because the narrative seemed c liché  at first, however subtle clues throughout the video lead to a plot twist that creates a suddenly unconventional nar...

RESEARCH: My chosen track and artist

My chosen track for my coursework is Jerry Folk's remix of 'Lose It', originally performed by Oh Wonder. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhK8Ehv6aPI I first came across the song whilst at concert where Jerry Folk was one of the supporting acts. I soon became a fan of Jerry Folk's work and when we were informed that the genre of our music videos was to be dance music, this track immediately sprung to mind. I chose this track because I think it suits the genre of dance music well, because although it is slower in some parts of the song, there are multiple build ups and break downs that lead into a more upbeat chorus, which is an iconic aspect of dance (particularly EDM) tracks. These changes in tempo could be used to influence the narrative of the video which would help the track and video compliment each other and become one. The track also has a continuous steady beat in the background throughout which I thought would be useful when editing as short, sharp cuts ...
