RESEARCH: key elements of a music artist's website

  • A menu bar that offers links to multiple other webpages, which is usually seen on an artist’s website at the very top of the page, positioned horizontally. This is an interactive feature of the website which will encourage fans to explore more of the website and make fans feel more involved in the artist’s work and create a stronger bond between fans and the
  • Image of artist or some of their work as the background of the website. This helps create a consistent theme of the artist throughout the website, as this is the main focus of the website.
  • Artists logo on the menu bar of the website, either in the top left-hand corner or centred on the menu bar. It is important that the logo is on all of the webpages as it helps to create a strong brand that fans will easily recognise.
  • A consistent colour scheme that contains colours that can be seen on other pieces of the artist’s brand e.g. colours from an album cover or from a music video. Colour scheme must have some colours that stand out against each other, i.e. a dark background colour and lighter colours for text or vice versa. This will mean that text will stand out clearly to users and be more likely to engage them in reading information on the website and ultimately interest them more in the brand.
  • Examples of the artist’s recent work i.e. recent music videos or particularly big hits. These are conventionally embedded on the website or put on a slideshow on the homepage along with other images from photoshoots or merchandise advertising.
  • A discography can also be found on many music artist’s websites where all of the artist’s previous pieces of work can be seen. A common formatting of this aspect is to use images of the album/single covers which are usually bold and eye-catching.
  • Links to all the artist’s social media pages. These links are usually accessed by the user clicking on icons that represent each individual social media site. This is an important aspect of the website because it aids the creation of a strong fan base and encourages interaction between the audience and the artist.
  • A large, clear font is often seen being used for titles on dance music websites, with a similarly designed font used for the body text. This font is usually sans serif and many websites use capital letters for all their titles. This helps the titles to stand out more, making a clear distinction between titles and content, which in turn makes the website easier to navigate.
